The other week Amber's mum brought in two little visitors, Paddy and Stuey, to P/1C. We heard all about how these adorable guinea pigs behave, where they live and what they eat. We were lucky enough to be able to stroke their silky fur and if we listened very carefully, we could hear their excited squeaks and tiny 'chirrups'.  Amber loves her guinea pigs and we can see why. Thanks, Amber!

Spring Reflections

In P/1C we have spent some time reflecting on the appeal of Spring.  We have enjoyed writing acrostic poems and creating colourful paintings to decorate our big new room.

Spring is here!
In Spring the Footy Grand Final is on so some of my friends come over to watch it with me. It can be hot in the morning and cold at night. Milo cricket starts and I go to it too. Sometimes I go to the pool and have a dip for a super-long time. Now that Winter is over I am able to climb trees and go really high. You can go on a trampoline and lie down and look at the clouds. A lot of the time I spend planting some seeds. New baby animals are born at the zoo.       Mitchell

In Spring you can see sparkly rainbows. It's the Melbourne Cup and we watch horse racing. Spring starts on the first of September and ends on the last day of November. It's my little sister's birthday!
Pearl

Some people have birthdays like I do! You can see lovely rainbows because the sun goes up and rain comes down. It's time to do some gardening like I do only sometimes. My birthday is in October so I'm a Spring boy!        Jack

A family could go on an outing in the country. There are some trees that are covered in blossoms and many colourful plants that bloom. It's cool at night and just the right temperature during the day. In Spring your family could go to the park and have a family lunch, and when you're there if you brought kids they could bring their own kite and fly it. You can even go to the beach.        Olivia

Spring is a very good time to have picnics and do some gardening. You can go on outings and see new baby animals. I've seen a piglet and a little calf and they were so cute. You can go to the Royal Melbourne Show like me. I like Spring.         Charlotte

Shirley Barber visit

This week we were fortunate enough to enjoy a visit from popular author and illustrator, Shirley Barber.  She showed us examples of her drawings from childhood through to the present day and we were entranced by their fine detail and dreamlike quality. Shirley told us about her favourite characters and how she developed story lines around them.  She read one of her stories and answered many of our questions. It was a wonderful opportunity for the aspiring junior authors and illustrators in P/1C to see how great ideas, talent, patience and years of hard work combine to produce such lovely end results.

Spring has been fantastic!

We have loved every minute of Spring in P/1C.  We have continued to participate in variety of interesting activities this term.  Some recent experiences have included two visits from the Fire Brigade for Preps, the arrival of the Life Education van and a visit from the famous author and illustrator, Shirley Barber.

Alex said, "Guess what! I got to see the firemen. They were called Sam, Ross and Matt and they were really funny, especially Sam. We got to have a turn of a huge hose and mine made a rainbow. The siren was so noisy that it gave everyone a fright. At the end all the Preps came over to Sam and so did I. I was squished by Preps! Then the firemen had to go to their station so they turned on the engine and the flashing light and drove away. When they were gone I jumped up and down."

Hugo said, "We looked at the shiny firetruck then we sprayed water and made a flood. On the firetruck I saw a ladder and I saw a pump where the hose goes to squirt water."

Charlotte said, "On Tuesday the firemen came to see us and they showed us the firetruck. Mrs Pollock had a go of the hose like all of us and so did my mum. Firetruck 20 came. They showed us all of the equipment and before they went they put the sirens on. As they were going they beeped the horn and everyone waved goodbye! "

Term 4

On Friday it was Japanese Festival Day at Kerrimuir.  Everyone dressed in red and white and some even dressed in national costume for a parade. At Assembly we saw a fantastic display of traditional Japanese drumming, or Wadaiko. After that all students gathered in their multi-age groups and spent the day participating in different activities such as cooking pancakes, making sushi, cartoon drawing, origami, sports and drumming. It was an interesting day and we all enjoyed ourselves very much.

More Term 3 action!

During Book Week we had the chance to dress up as our favourite book character and join a whole school parade. It was great fun to identify all the characters and to see how inventive people were with props and costumes. Well done!

Looking back at Term 3

We were delighted to welcome the author Leigh Hobbs to Kerrimuir.  He talked about his interesting book characters and demonstrated how to draw them, step by step.  This was very exciting for P/1C because we had read all his books and even written new adventures for Horrible Harriet, Old Tom and Mr Chicken.

We also thoroughly enjoyed our session with the Coach Approach team, whose instructors taught us basic Ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse and hip-hop dancing skills.

Classroom Olympics

Here are the medal winners from our very own 'Classroom Olympics', where we competed in long jump, javelin, discus, high jump and shot put (using modified equipment of course!). Well done to all participants in Prep/1C.

Congratulations Preps!

The Preps have now been at school for 100 days!  They looked very colourful at Assembly on Friday when they wore their lovely masks, and Angie and Theodore read out what they have loved about being in Prep so far. Back in the classroom the Preps practised counting by 10s to 100. They were able to join their friends and thread a string of 100 'beads' each. This took a lot of patience and provided great counting practise.

After all this excitement there were big platters of fresh fruit for healthy morning tea. Some delicious cup cakes completed this very special morning. Many thanks to the parents who donated and cut up the fruit!

Updates

The Circus Skills concert was exciting and P/1C students did a terrific job of spinning and twirling their brightly coloured hoops. Well done - your audience loved the performance! Later in the week we were sad to say goodbye to Heilyn, who has moved out of the area. However, we have two new students for Term 3 and we welcome Esneya and Pedram.

Keep up the great work!

What an exciting week we've had! Thursday evening's Education Week Open Night was extremely well attended and began with each one of our families visiting the classroom. The Preps and Grade Ones sang beautifully on stage and it was a joy to see all those animated faces and happy smiles. I'm sure everyone who was there loved the performances during the evening. This week you have also received the Specialists' Cup which means you have listened to your teachers and completed great work. Well done, P/1C! Mrs Pollock is very proud of you.
